HouseStyle for Case Studies on WEB
In an attempt to standardise the way case studies are presented on the ACAP web site, a guide has been created by the ACAP steering group to ultimately promote ease of both creation and appraisal of case studies for all ACAP members.
All case study presentations to take the form of a word document rather than power point presentation. There is no limitation on word count/length. References – Harvard style.
If all case studies could follow the following SBAR format :
Situation
How you came to be seeing the patient, e.g. Called to see a 49 year old woman with central chest pain.
Background
When they were admitted, what they were admitted with, any tests that have previously been done, any provisional diagnoses, past medical history, any medications, social history
Assessment
ABCDE assessment, bloods, ABGS, ECGS, Xrays (if any of the above indicated).
Impression – with explanation why you came to this conclusion.
Recommendations
This part should include your plan for management of patient. Again rationale for recommendations.
This part should also include discussion and educational points drawn from the case study.
